Rose Recycled Glass Beads

African recycled glass beads are made by members of the Krobo Tribe located in Ghana, Africa. The recycled glass is rushed into a porcelain cast. The stem of a cassava leaf is used to make the hole, it is then baked in a furnace causing the glass to melt together and cassava stem to burn. The glass itself is derived from a variety of recycled sources including old beverage and medicine bottles.  This technique has been used in Africa for centuries to make recycled glass beads.  We love using these as 'room jewelry' pouring out of a bowl or vase or atop a stack of books to add color and texture.
